Saint Clair Success at Sydney International Wine Competition

MEDIA RELEASE 27 FEBRUARY 2012

Saint Clair Success at Sydney International Wine Competition

The Sydney International Wine Competition announced trophy winners on Saturday afternoon that included two major trophies for Marlborough winery Saint Clair Family Estate. The Saint Clair Pioneer Block 5 Bull Block Grüner Veltliner 2011 was awarded the trophy for the Best Wine made from a Lesser Recognised Grape Variety and Saint Clair Family Estate was awarded the trophy for the Most Successful Entrant of Competition.

The Sydney International Wine Competition is unlike others as judges assess wines not only for their technical excellence, but also alongside a food dish specifically created to be matched with wines of similar palate weight. Only 15% of the total entries receive any recognition, making the Sydney International Wine Competition one of the toughestmarking competitions of all the major internationals.

Awards and trophies were announced at the presentations degustation banquet on Saturday afternoon in the Grand Ballroom of the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney. Saint Clair family members Julie and Tony Ibbotson were present at the banquet and celebrated the achievement of Saint Clair.

“It was such a thrill to be there to receive both these esteemed trophies,” says Julie. “This year Saint Clair achieved more top awards than ever at this show, obtaining six out of the top 100 wines. Saint Clair has a terrific team of people working together, ensuring quality from the vineyards and winery. The result is a consistent quality wines that over-delivers on consumers' expectations."
