Exciting times lie ahead for the New Zealand College of Massage
Exciting times lie ahead for the New Zealand College of Massage (NZCM) and for New Zealand’s world-leading sports and physical therapies industries, following the purchase of the NZCM by the New Zealand Institute of Sport (NZIS).
Chief Executive John Fiso, who started NZIS 17 years ago and has since overseen its growth into one of the largest and most successful private training establishments in the country, is delighted with the new acquisition.
“The New Zealand College of Massage has an excellent track of record of teaching students world-leading massage knowledge, skills and techniques. A large proportion of the country’s massage therapists are graduates of the college,” said Mr Fiso today. “And New Zealand’s massage therapists are the best in the world”.
“Now we have the opportunity to build on this excellent foundation and take the organisation to a new level. And at the same time, we can further develop leading-edge approaches to sports, fitness and lifestyle physical therapies. The opportunities are there for this country to become a world leader in using massage therapies as part of a wider approach to community health and fitness, as well as supporting our top sports performers”.
“We have exciting plans for our state-of-the-art campus facilities in Green Lane in Auckland, and to further develop our current premises in Wellington. We want to ensure that graduates from the New Zealand College of Massage have a fantastic student experience and are well-positioned to take up exciting employment opportunities in a growing labour market” said Mr Fiso today.
John Fiso set up the New Zealand Institute of Sport in 1995, providing foundation level training to 17 school leavers in Porirua. The organisation now provides education to 600 students annually from its sites in Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington. It provides education ranging from foundation level right through to world-leading Degree opportunities, and its alumni include many of New Zealand’s finest sports performers including All Blacks, Olympians and Commonwealth Games medallists.
The New Zealand College of Massage started in 1992 and was accredited as a private training establishment in 1994. It provides Certificate and Diploma qualifications, as well as the Bachelor of Health Sciences (massage and neuromuscular therapy), and operates from campuses in Auckland and Wellington.
