Strong Growth in Online Job Vacancies in February
Online job vacancies showed strong growth in February 2012 after a slight increase in January, according to the latest Jobs Online.
The Department of Labour’s Jobs Online report shows skilled job vacancies increased by a seasonally adjusted 6% in February, and job vacancies overall grew by 6.8%, compared to January. This is the largest growth in skilled vacancies since March 2011.
“Skilled job vacancies rose by 9.6% compared to February 2011 while job vacancies overall rose by 13.3%” says the Department’s head of Labour and Immigration Research Centre, Vasantha Krishnan.
Growth in skilled job vacancies was strongest in the main centres of Auckland and Canterbury, both grew by around 7% in February. The construction and engineering sector (up 12.1%) showed particularly strong growth in skilled vacancies.
Canterbury has continued to show the strongest growth in skilled vacancies of any region (up by 77%) over the last 12 months, with some of the growth attributed to an increase in staff turnover. The strong growth in the region was driven by the construction and engineering, and healthcare and medical sectors, up 178% and 114% respectively.
