‘Superyacht SuRi: (Not Tom
Cruises Daughter!) is Having an 11m Extension’
The unique and popular superyacht, 53m SuRi that toured New Zealand for 3 months is having an 11m extension which will include a stand out feature referred to as ‘The Windows of the Sea’.
When SuRi was in New Zealand at the beginning of 2011 she caused a huge splash in the local media with rampant rumours that she was owned by Tom Cruise and named after Katy Holmes and his daughter! SuRi is actually owned by an American fellow named Rick and is named SuRi because of what the individual letters mean to him.
SuRi currently has a huge array of toys on board including a helicopter, seaplane, hovercraft, an amphibious jeep and much more. The 11m extension is allowing for even more toys and, though it is yet to be confirmed, there has been talk of a three man submarine!
The extension will make SuRi a full 64m! It’s taking place at Bay Ship and Yacht Co in San Francisco and is due to be completed by late May. SuRi plans to come back to the South Pacific at the beginning of 2013 to embark on the ultimate voyage from Patagonia across to South East Asia stopping at exotic places such as Easter Island and the Pitcairn Islands.
She will be available to hire for charter in areas such as Mexico, South America and Patagonia and across the Pacific. All charter enquiries are taken care of by Auckland based superyacht agency, 37South.
Renderings of what SuRi’s uniquely dramatic Windows of the Sea are to look like have been released. To be located in the centre of the new media room complete with home theatre, wrap around seating for 12 and bar.
The Windows of the Sea illuminate the ocean below with special high intensity lights attracting all kinds of fish right up to the vessel. This creates a natural, ever changing aquarium viewed from the comfortable and luxurious surroundings aboard SuRi.
The 11 metre (36 foot) extension and adjustments are due to be completed by the end of May and include the addition of; Two new full beam guest cabins, a much larger sunning and shade area, a new glass-enclosed guest lounge, two large exercise/lounging/meeting rooms on the hold deck and of course the media room with the one of a kind Window’s of the Sea.
