Local Busines Gets Behind Earth Day

News Release 19 April 2012

Busines Gets Behind Earth Day

Locally owned home comfort solutions company HomeTech Solatube is once again showing its support for Earth Day, the largest non-religious holiday in the world, which will be celebrated on 22 April 2012.

By supporting Earth Day, HomeTech Solatube is making a stand and urges all New Zealanders; individuals and businesses, to do the same and make small, positive changes for the planet each and every day.

Mike Cullen, HomeTech National Trade Manager said: “Earth Day 2012 is about demanding immediate action to secure renewable energy for all and a sustainable future for our planet. While we want to be part of that call to action, we feel New Zealanders can do a lot for themselves when it comes to acting sustainably. There are a number of easy things to do that can help us help our planet.”
Reducing electrical demand is vital, and is as much about saving money as it is about the pressure on the resources that produce energy. The average household’s power usage is based on 34% space heating, 29% water heating, 19% appliances, 10% refrigeration and 8% on lighting. While it is only 8% of household energy usage, reducing the need for lighting is one of the easiest things to do.

The Solatube Daylighting System removes the need for electrical lighting. It is a Tubular Daylighting Device (TDD) that provides an abundance of pure, natural light to interior spaces. Its complete roof to ceiling system captures daylight in a small roof top dome and then redirects it down a reflective tube that delivers clean, white light to the inside space. The Solatube System’s breakthrough sustainable technology ensures that consistent light is evenly diffused into the interior space without using any electricity.

“Our Solatube Daylighting System is the ultimate in eco-friendly lighting. It is a lighting solution that allows homeowners to brighten their homes using natural light, while reducing their consumption of electricity through lighting. Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDDs), cost nothing to operate, making them significantly more sustainable than even the most energy efficient halogen light,” said Mike Cullen.

In honour of Earth Day 2012, HomeTech Solatube is offering an instant $150 ‘Greenbate’ for customers purchasing a Solatube Daylighting System, until 27 April.

Part of the Future Proof Building Network (FPB) and the Green Building Council, HomeTech works closely with other building industry innovators to educate New Zealanders about the benefits of having a healthy home. HomeTech is also active within the community, having recently formed a charitable relationship with charity Skylight. This partnership sees HomeTech making a donation to Skylight for every Solatube Daylighting system sold, allowing Skylight to continue to provide a range of services that help children, young people and their families/whanau deal with trauma, change, loss, or grief, regardless of its cause.

“As a company, we get behind Earth Day because we care. We care about our environment, from healthy home to productive workplace. We care about how people feel and believe passionately that we can make a difference by helping New Zealanders create homes and workplaces that are healthier, brighter and more energy efficient.”
