NZ Design Company Release Timelapse and Motion Control Devic

Syrp Release the ‘Genie’ - Timelapse and Motion Control Device on Kickstarter

New Zealand based Design Company successfully launches new product

Media Release

Queenstown, New Zealand (7th May 2012)

A Queenstown based start-up company, Syrp, setup by local film maker Ben Ryan and Product Designer Chris Thomson, have launched their flagship product the ‘Genie’ on popular crowdfunding website www.kickstarter.com

The ‘Genie’ is a simple, portable and an extremely user friendly device that adds motion control to time lapse photography.  With the ability to perform both panning and linear movements, the ‘Genie’ can attach to any existing film equipment such as tripods, sliders, dollies or any DIY equipment.

“We have been in research and development for the last year and launching the ‘Genie’ has been the culmination of a lot of hard work and technical testing. We are thrilled with the results and the feedback has been huge,” says Ben Ryan.

The company is using kickstarter.com to try and raise enough funds for its first production run.

“Kickstarter allows anyone to pledge money towards the project at various reward levels and contributors can pre-order the device at a cheaper rate than retail. We decided to use Kickstarter because it’s a rapidly developing concept that has had an incredible response from creative’s pledging money towards projects.”

Since the ‘Genie’ launch last Friday the company has had an overwhelming response and just 6 days into their kickstarter campaign they reached their goal amount and have currently raised a total of over $245,000 in funding.

“Our goal was to reach a minimum of $150,000 so we can get our first production run underway, we are excited to say that after 6 days we will definitely be manufacturing and there is still fifty days left on Kickstarter before the funding period expires” says Chris Thomson.

"Additional funding beyond our goal amount will assist in developing the product further and there will be some exciting new features launched over the coming weeks"
