Chapman Tripp Partner Moves to Justice Ministry

Chapman Tripp Partner Moves to Justice Ministry

LawFuel.co.nz - NZ Law Newswire - Chapman Tripp commercial partner Frank McLaughlin is leaving Chapmans to take up a position as a deputy secretary of justice.

It is a rare move for a senior law partner in a large firm to move to the civil service. Mr McLaughlin, who has played a role in many major commercial deals including helping to set up Fonterra with the disestablishment of the Dairy Board, is to play a senior management role in Justice.

The Justice Ministry has had a tough job dealing with a multitude of law changes along with restructuring of the courts and the legal aid system and it is expected that the addition of someone of Mr McLaughlin's experience and abilities will be well utilised. He was a member of the Financial Markets Authority Establishment Board and helped set up NZX from a statutory body.

He is to work in the development of policy and has wide experience working on government matters, including acting for Treasury on different matters, as well as advising government on the ultra fast broadband scheme and handling work for the Kingdom of Tonga.

His wide experience working in governance, together with his legal capabilities will see him as a valuable addition to the Justice Ministry.
