Revera signs with SMX for cloud email security

Auckland, 15 May 2012. Cloud-based email security provider SMX has signed a licensing and support agreement with Revera, a leading New Zealand-owned data centre and computing infrastructure provider.

The agreement will see the SMX Cloud platform replace Revera’s existing appliance-based Barracuda and Sortiemail email security solution.

Jason Porter, Revera general manager, technical operations, says Revera will move quickly to migrate 5000 existing customers to the new SMX-based service, which now underpins Revera's Homeland email security service.

Porter says the decision to adopt the SMX email filtering solution was the outcome of a rigorous evaluation process.

“We’re delighted that we can select a New Zealand developed and supported cloud email security solution, but SMX had to compete against the best international competition to win the business,” Porter says.

“SMX proved to have a number of compelling advantages. First, is the speed and ease of implementation and ongoing management. We can provision customers with the service in a matter of hours and at the same time give customers the ability to configure and manage the system to best suit their business or organization.

“All mail is scrubbed in New Zealand. That is particularly important for the growing number of our Government and local government customers who require a carrier-grade email security service, with bullet proof reliability and accuracy.

“We also liked the open architecture of the SMX solution. This means we can build on new features and offer our customers an email security solution that is not only world class but also has features and benefits that they can’t get from another supplier.

“Finally, we liked the fact that SMX is paid for on a per user per month basis, with no additional hardware upgrade or software licencing costs or management overheads. That makes the SMX platform extremely cost-effective for us and our customers.”

SMX chief executive Jesse Ball said the Revera win capped a strong year for SMX, both locally and internationally.

“We’re absolutely delighted with Revera’s decision to run with SMX. Revera’s decision to select SMX further validates the strategic work we’ve done in making the SMX service fast and easy for companies to slot into their wider cloud offerings. It also shows the importance of being able to filter mail ‘in country’. Competing services route customer emails through offshore datacenters, whereas our strategy is to use local datacenters with local support. That’s proving to be a powerful differentiator for us internationally as well,” Jesse Ball said.
