Review of Industry Training
update
The Ministry of Education has
released this report summarising interviews and the
results of an online survey with employers.
"Overall, it shows that employers value the role that ITOs have to arrange training," Industry Training Federation Chief Executive Mark Oldershaw said.
"And as would be expected, there is also feedback and comments we can learn from. Over the last two years, ITOs have made a concerted effort to improve outcomes for trainees and workplaces and this feedback will support that ongoing process. It's well worth a read."
Meanwhile, the options paper for the review is now due sometime next month.
ESITO's
Cadetships
The Electricity Supply Industry
Training Organisation (ESITO) Cadetships are leading
examples of private-public sector partnership in action,
says Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples.
He launched 50 new cadetship positions at a function at Parliament this week.
“Developing home grown talent is what Cadetships are all about. If we do not invest in our own, then companies will buy in overseas expertise and they will be competing with the rest of the world to buy that expertise.” Read more
Industry
leaders boost Pasifika rebuilding
role
Industry leaders meet the new
generation of Pasifika tradespeople at an event hosted by
The Built Environment Training Alliance (BETA) and CPIT next
week.
Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker, and key industry employers will speak to the Pasifika community at the function about employment opportunities for the rebuild of Christchurch.
“We are passionate about ensuring the Pasifika community has every opportunity to achieve within the sector,” BETA Chair Philip Aldridge said. “Central to this is our commitment to facilitating collaboration between ITOs and industry employers.” Read more

Primary Industry Capability
Alliance
AgITO has joined forces with
other primary industry stakeholders to form the Primary
Industry Capability Alliance (PICA), to help overcome the
challenge facing agriculture industries in attracting
skilled and experienced people.
As well as a website, PICA provides a new and fresh initiative that pulls together a pan industry collaboration focused on growing farmers' skills and capability.
Industry Training
Graduations
Industry training graduations
for 2012 are in full swing around the country.
This week mayors in Otorohanga/Waitomo and Matamata/Piako are presenting certificates to industry training graduates in their regions while next week the celebrations will occur in Hauraki/Thames-Coromandel and Waipa. The picture shows Brad Pollock with his proud bosses from AgriZone who received his National Certificate in Automotive Heavy Engineering (Agricultural Equipment) - Level 4 (through MITO) and received the Otorohanga Top Apprentice Award.
The graduations are an initiative of the Mayor's Taskforce for Jobs as a tangible way of recognising the real worth to the community and country of industry training and the employers’ contribution to that training.
And, as this story from the Taranaki Daily News shows they're also a chance to showcase what can be achieved through industry training and publicly celebrate the achievement of trainees.
"The Industry Training Federation (ITF)
is a membership-based organisation, representing Industry
Training Organisations (ITOs)
to improve the policy for
and delivery of industry skill development and workplace
learning."
