Marisco takes Trophy at Decanter World Wine
Awards
The Ned Sauvignon Blanc 2011
The Ned Sauvignon Blanc 2011 by Marisco Vineyards won the Trophy for ‘Best New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc Under £10’ at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London overnight. Marisco Vineyards was also awarded NZ Winery of the Year at the IWC in October 2011.
Marisco Vineyards Proprietor and Chief Winemaker Brent Marris says the win is another significant endorsement of the quality of Sauvignon Blanc being grown at their Waihopai Valley property and crafted by their highly skilled team in their new-generation winery.
“We stake our reputation on our Sauvignon Blanc because it’s what Marlborough is best known for internationally, and we’re thrilled that for a panel of global judges ours came out on top,” he says.
The Decanter World Wine Awards receive more than14,000 entries from around the world and are judged by 200 international wine experts
“Because the UK is such a traditional market, and so important to our business, this win is priceless. It will put us in a very strong position for selling the 2012vintage there, and embedding our brand as one of the top performing New Zealand labels in the UK,” says Marris.
More than 50% of Marisco Vineyards’ wine is sold in the UK and import volumes are expected to rise significantly over the next 12 months.
“The UK was New Zealand’s first international wine market and there remains huge interest in our wines there and across Europe. It’s important that we keep investing in the UK because it’s a real cornerstone for New Zealand’s wine export industry,” he says.
