Solid Energy increases focus on resource development

Solid Energy increases focus on resource development

Solid Energy has created two new senior management roles designed to improve its focus on developing its resource portfolio and on coal production; the new role of Group Manager Resources will focus on the growth and development of the company’s resource portfolio, and Group Manager Coal Operations will concentrate on improving the performance of Solid Energy’s existing and future mines.

Barry Bragg becomes Group Manager Resources, with responsibility for marketing, logistics and all current coal resource developments, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Dr Don Elder. Larry Hull joined the company in late May and is appointed as Group Manager Coal Operations, also reporting to Dr Elder.

Dr Elder says Barry Bragg’s new role is crucial to the company’s strategy. “Barry’s new role is absolutely pivotal to our strategy because increasing Solid Energy’s resource base and deriving value from it — whether by partnership, divestment or production — will be the basis of Solid Energy’s future value growth. Barry has the perfect background and skill set for this new role,” Dr Elder says.

Barry Bragg has worked for Solid Energy for 12 years in marketing and senior management roles. “I am relishing this new role,” he says. “A specific focus on adding new coal resources for mining and growing, trading and developing Solid Energy’s resource base is an essential part of our future success and fits my commercial experience perfectly.”

Dr Elder says this change has been made possible by the appointment of Larry Hull as GM Coal Operations. “We have spent the last 12 months searching for a senior world-class mining manager to take over the running of the current mining operations. Larry is a lifetime miner, with extensive international experience in senior roles.

“Our existing and future mines must continue to operate to exceptional safety and efficiency standards, deliver on the plans they commit to and operate in an environment of much greater scrutiny. With Larry’s appointment we are making a substantial step in ensuring we will meet those goals,” Dr Elder says.

“Solid Energy is a progressive, forward-looking company with an exciting future,” Mr Hull says. “When you’ve been in the mining industry as long as I have you can recognise a resource company of quality such as Solid Energy. Taking up this position gives me the opportunity to participate in its exciting future.”
