Gallagher Bassett acquires Care Advantage

Gallagher Bassett acquires Care Advantage

Gallagher Bassett (GB), Australasia’s largest multi-discipline third party claims administrator, has acquired Care Advantage, the specialist injury management division of Southern Cross Medical Care Society.

GB has a long history of working in the New Zealand market and has been a provider of off-shore claims administration services to the New Zealand Earthquake Commission for over 10 years, handling thousands of claims in that time. It entered New Zealand’s ACC Accredited Employer Partnership (AEP) business space in 2009 with the purchase of a small injury case management provider. It currently has staff in Auckland and Wellington.

Gallagher Bassett’s Managing Director, Jon Winsbury, said the acquisition of Care Advantage would strengthen the company’s offer to the New Zealand business market.

“Our lack of size in New Zealand has made it difficult for us to grow the business, particularly with large employer clients. We identified Care Advantage as a well-respected Third Party Provider for employers accredited under the programme, providing high quality injury claims management, case management, reporting and administration services. Care Advantage’s geographic spread, their established relationships with some of New Zealand’s largest employers (the business currently looks after the workplace injury needs of more than 40,000 employees) coupled with their proven record in helping clients reduce injury rates, made them an attractive proposition for us.”

Winsbury said all Care Advantage clients have been advised and provided the option to transition over to GB management with the support of their existing relationship managers. “It will be business as usual, as we do not plan to disrupt that great local service delivery. However we will overlay our global experience in order to offer employers new initiatives in the future.”

The integration will be overseen by GB’s Shayne Milsom. Winsbury continued, “Shayne has a wealth of experience, not only in personal injury/accident compensation but also in project management and business transformation.”

The business has been renamed Gallagher Bassett Care Advantage and trades as such with immediate effect.
