Margaret Owens appointed President of the RVA

Margaret Owens is the new President of the New Zealand Retirement Villages Association. The appointment was announced at the RVA conference last week in Wellington after the retirement of long standing president Norah Barlow.

General Manager of Independent Living at Bupa Care Services Margaret Owens is no stranger to the retirement village business. Holding several positions in the industry since 1990 and has been on the RVA Executive Committee for 8 years Margaret is very equipped for the job.

“I am delighted to be taking on this role and to be working with the very capable team at the RVA” said Ms Owens “I am also grateful for the wonderful work that Norah has done in steering the RVA through challenging times in the last 6 years enabling me to move into the role with ease”. Norah Barlow will now assume the role of Immediate Past President of the RVA.

The RVA is a national body that works to represent, protect and promote the interests of its members and their village residents. The principal aim of the RVA is to represent villages with a shared vision for providing quality services. In order to achieve this aim, the association has for some time had a member Code of Practice requiring RVA members to operate their villages in a professional manner and with the highest level of commercial integrity. The Code of Practice is externally audited by designated audit agencies and provides assurance to residents and members that village management is meeting the required standards.
