Change of leadership at Malcam Trust

Change of leadership at Malcam Trust

July 18 2012

Andy Kilsby is taking over the chief executive reins at The Malcam Trust from Rosey McConnon on August 1.

Ms McConnon will still be active in the trust, both as a trustee and in a hands-on role. She is leaving the chief executive role to give herself time to work on other projects and follow up opportunities she does not have time for currently. She says her time in the role has been “the most magnificent experience working alongside many great individuals”.

“The Malcam Trust punches way above its weight and the staff here are just remarkable. I’ve learned a tremendous amount about the community sector and how vital all the people who work in it are.”

Malcam Trust founder Malcolm Cameron says the trust has advanced under Ms McConnon’s leadership. She took over from Mr Cameron in May 2010 and he was grateful she had done such a tremendous job in lifting our profile and looking after the operational side of the trust. “It’s been a valuable couple of years.”

Mr Cameron says Mr Kilsby will also be a huge asset to the trust. “I’m really excited about him coming into the position.”

Mr Kilsby has been managing the trust’s Altitude Employment Based programme for six months, but has been involved with the trust for more than five years in a variety of roles including as a board member and a volunteer. He became involved with the trust while in his previous role as manager of SBS Bank in Dunedin. The bank was one of the trust’s sponsors. Before SBS, Mr Kilsby worked for two Australian-owned banks. Mr Kilsby left banking because he liked the Malcam Trust’s attitude.

“It’s very much about making pragmatic change for young people, as opposed to doing things that are just the politically correct thing to do. We do the things that work.”

Mr Kilsby is looking forward to working on the trust’s strategic direction and assessing the type of people the organisation needs.

“I’m going to be filling some pretty big shoes but in saying that Rosey isn’t going completely – she’ll just have more of a governance and strategic role with the trust.”

Originally from the North Island, Mr Kilsby attended Otago University and after stints away to Christchurch and Nelson he and his family moved back to Dunedin in 1998.

Malcam Trust chair Graham Elkin is pleased Mr Kilsby is keen to step into the role. He says Ms McConnon has done a very good job for the trust, in a time of great change and he looks forward to continuing to work with her.
