2013 Eisenhower Fellow from New Zealand announced
The Eisenhower Alumni Association of New Zealand is pleased to announce Dunedin North MP David Clarke as New Zealand's Eisenhower Fellow for 2013.
The Eisenhower Fellowships are a prestigious network of global leaders who are encouraged through the Fellowship to make consequential contributions to their country through their field of expertise.
"David Clark has an outstanding background from which to contribute to the Eisenhower Mission," said New Zealand Alumni Chairperson Bernardine Vester.
David Clark is the Parliamentary Labour Party's Revenue Spokesperson and Associate Spokesperson for Tertiary Education. As a member of the senior economic caucus, Mr Clark has a role in shaping economic policy for the Labour Party. He is a member of the Finance and Expenditure Select Committee, a former Treasury official, has served as Deputy Chair of the Otago Community Trust, and is also a Presbyterian Minister.
Fellows are selected in Philadelphia. David Clarke will join 24 fellows from other countries on a twelve-week odyssey. His programme is tailored to his interests, which include looking at public finance legislation in the US, policies that address social disparities and electoral participation; and education and social mobility.
Recent New Zealand Eisenhower Fellows include Hon Paula Bennett (2011) and Barrister Greg King (2012).
“The Embassy is delighted that MP David Clark has been selected as a 2013 Eisenhower Fellow. He follows in the footsteps of an exceptional string of Kiwis to be awarded an Eisenhower, and his participation in the program will serve to strengthen even further the organic relationship between New Zealand and the United States,” said U.S. Ambassador David Huebner.
Bernardine Vester said that the Eisenhower Alumni Association appreciated the support of the Leader of the Opposition and the Speaker of the House for Mr Clark to take up this opportunity next Northern spring.
