i-SITE staff member recognised for training advocacy and delivery

ATTTO has recognised an individual who has played a leading role in advocacy and delivery of training through New Zealand’s i-SITE network.

The Aviation Tourism and Travel Training Organisation last night presented its Tourism Ambassador Award to Raylene Innes, Training Coordinator for i-SITE New Zealand. The award was presented as part of the graduation ceremony for i-SITE trainees at the network’s annual conference in Blenheim.

Raylene has been with i-SITE for more than 15 years, having started her career working part time in Hanmer Springs in 1995. She has been in her current role of Training Coordinator since 2007, and as the point of contact between i-SITE and ATTTO has helped hundreds of people gain the skills they require to succeed in their careers.

Kathy Wolfe, Chief Executive of ATTTO, said: “It takes someone with great coordination, planning and people skills to ensure workplace training, learning and development succeeds in as large and geographically spread an organisation as i-SITE.

“Having Raylene act as an advocate for training, as well as provide support and clear training pathways for staff throughout the country has been critical to ensuring i-SITE staff provide the high level of service expected by tourists.

“As ambassadors for the whole tourism industry, it’s vitally important that the people staffing i-SITEs have the knowledge and skills to help ensure a first class visitor experience.”

ATTTO Training Ambassador Awards are awarded annually to individuals or teams from all of our sectors that live and breathe learning and development.

The winners are presented with a greenstone sculpture of the double twist, which means the ‘unity of groups’. The award reflects the dual role of training ambassadors – bringing people together within the workplace and the sector to achieve a common and unified standard of learning and qualifications.

Speaking to ATTTO before the award announcement, Raylene underlined the importance of training, and ensured that it is tailored to trainees’ needs.

She said: “Workplace training is all about making the learning fit the trainee. If people are going to undertake training we work to identify the skills they already have and find a qualification that suits them best.

“One of the best things about my role is seeing how people develop their skills and knowledge over the course of their training.

“Training is an amazing journey for many people, and the benefits they gain through increased confidence and effectiveness are great for their i-SITE and for i-SITE New Zealand.”
