SKYCITY Achieves High Flying Gaming Experience with HP

HP Networking technology enhances gaming services to foster customer loyalty

HP today announced that SKYCITY Entertainment Group has selected HP Networking solutions to deliver new gaming services for its guests and drive business growth.

SKYCITY, an operator of five casinos and four hotels in New Zealand and Australia, embarked on a growth plan to attract and retain customers by offering the latest in gaming services. To deliver these new services and prepare for future gaming innovations, SKYCITY needed to upgrade its existing networking infrastructure.

SKYCITY selected HP Converged Infrastructure solutions including HP Networking switches, HP BladeSystem and HP ProLiant servers. With these solutions, HP created a flexible network with scalability to meet peaks in demand. Through HP Intelligent Management Center, SKYCITY is also able to easily monitor and manage the networks in its various locations and support its new gaming services.

As part of its commitment to enhance its guests’ experience, SKYCITY also chose HP Networking wireless multiservice controllers to provide guests with wireless access in every hotel room. For enhanced wireless access coverage, the entertainment group deployed more than 600 HP controllers with additional access points across its hotels.

“The casino and entertainment industry drives customer loyalty by providing premium, personalised services. Our IT systems need to be able to match the speed and performance our guests expect,” said Mike Clarke, CIO, SKYCITY Entertainment Group. “HP’s proven expertise in delivering solutions to gaming and entertainment organisations together with their ability to implement a fast and secure network helped us deliver superior services with improved customer experience for our guests.”

To upgrade its gaming infrastructure, SKYCITY selected HP Networking routers, switches and controllers to build a distributed network. The solution consists of 400 HP Networking switches(1), including the HP 5400 zl Switch Series, HP 3500 yl Switch Series and HP 2610 Switch Series. With enhanced scalability and processing capacity, these HP Networking products can handle large increases in demand, even during special events and holidays.

The upgraded network runs on HP BladeSystem BL460c servers with Flex Fabric and HP ProLiant DL380 servers. With high reliability and enhanced compute power, these servers provide SKYCITY with the IT performance needed to deliver the latest in gaming services.

Other components of the deployment include HP Storage solutions. As part of its converged infrastructure, SKYCITY purchased HP 3PAR Storage for its properties in Auckland, New Zealand and Adelaide, Australia. To ensure reliability and high-performance in the network, SKYCITY worked closely with HP Technology Services to design and implement the new infrastructure for smooth-running, continuous service, critical to the guests’ overall experience.

SKYCITY has completed these implementations successfully at its properties in Darwin and Adelaide in Australia and Auckland and Hamilton in New Zealand.

HP’s premier Europe, Middle East and Africa client event, HP Discover, takes place Dec. 4-6 in Frankfurt, Germany.
