Half-Brother to Rolling Pin at NZB Ready to Run
Sale
The 2012 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale will offer a half-brother by Sakhee's Secret (Lot 132) to Saturday’s A$175,000 Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) winner Rolling Pin (NZ).
The Gwenda Markwell trained Rolling Pin (Pins x Gypsy's Daughter) won the Group 3 Cameron Handicap at his last appearance, giving the five-year-old a guaranteed start in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m). Saturday’s Group 2 victory at Rosehill has seen him take another positive step towards Sydney’s feature spring mile where he will meet a tough field of seasoned competitors.
Ridden by Corey Brown, Rolling Pin raced outside the leader Offenders (Canny Lad) in a slow early pace and, increasing the tempo coming into the straight, managed to out muscle his rival Offenders in a hard fought battle to win by a long head.
Rolling Pin will now take his place in this weekend’s Group 1 Epsom Handicap where he is likely to meet a strong field including Group 1 George Main Stakes winner Shoot Out (High Chaparral) and Doncaster Mile winner and fellow Karaka graduate Rangirangdoo (Pentire).
Bred by Josie Hines, Rolling Pin was purchased by Matthew Sandblom from Mark & Shelley Treweek’s Lyndhurst Farm at the 2009 Karaka Premier Sale for $60,000. Raced by Matthew Sandblom and Mr S Brodie, the five-year-old has won eight of his 23 starts for over A$387,000 in stakes.
Rolling Pin is out of the Mi Preferido mare Gypsy's Daughter, the winner of seven races including the Listed Neville Sellwood Stakes and Listed Lord Mayor's Cup in Australia and Listed Manawatu Breeders’ Stakes in New Zealand.
Bradbury Park will offer a half-brother to Rolling Pin by Group 1 July Cup winner Sakhee's Secret at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds at Lot 132.
