Paper Plus expands into eBooks and eReaders

Paper Plus Group has today announced a new partnership with Kobo, a leader in eReading with over 10 million registered users worldwide. Stores nationwide will soon be introducing Kobo eReading devices to their ever-expanding offering, empowering customers to take advantage of Kobo’s successful and mutually-beneficial eReading platform.

From early November, customers will have the option to purchase the Kobo Glo plus all associated accessories which will be available at Paper Plus stores nationwide, selected Take Note stores, and from paperplus.co.nz. Additionally, Paper Plus Group’s own branded tablet, Octavo will launch at the same time.

Paper Plus Group CEO, Rob Smith says that after talking to staff and customers, Paper Plus Group has made the decision to move into the eReading market, a move he says, demonstrates the company’s commitment to providing customers with a wide product offering.

“Introducing Kobo eReading devices, as well as launching the tablet, Octavo, adds another facet to our stores and continues the successful growth of our Paper Plus Retail brand. We haven’t taken the decision of getting into the eBook and eReader market lightly, however it’s clear that New Zealanders are embracing technology such as smartphones, tablets and eReaders,” says Smith.

“Kobo has one of the widest selections of local content and with its localised online shopping experience. The Paper Plus Group will now be able to help grow the eReading market in New Zealand,” says Smith. “Our ability to bring the Kobo eReading platform to our customers allows us to diversify and help people turn more pages.”

“We’ve targeted our strategy and recently introduced Paper Plus Office, a full service office stationery supplies store where customers can shop online for a full range of stationery and home office products. Stocking eBooks, eReaders and tablets was the next step in moving into the digital space, whilst providing a greater choice for customers,” say Smith.

Todd Humphrey, EVP of Business Development, Kobo says “Kobo strives to develop partnerships with innovative retail partners like Paper Plus to bring eReading solutions to local communities. This partnership signifies the Paper Plus Group’s commitment to bringing the best products available to their customers. We’re thrilled that they have selected Kobo as their eReading partner.”

Specific pricing for the Kobo eReader and eBooks sold by Paper Plus and selected Take Note stores are yet to be announced. The Octavo tablet will retail for a special introductory price, and all products including the new Kobo Glo eReader will be available from November.
