Golden Year for Rapaura Springs

Golden Year for Rapaura Springs

It’s been a golden year for Marlborough wine company Rapaura Springs, with a win in the International Aromatic Wine Competition the latest in a long list of successes.

Owner Brendan Neylon says receiving gold for the Rapaura Springs 2012 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc takes the year’s tally to 11 gold medals, eight of them in international markets.

Last month, the Rapaura Springs 2012 Pinot Gris received 4.5 stars and became a wine of the year finalist in Australia’s Winestate Magazine, and also received gold in the New Zealand International Wine Show. The Rapaura Springs 2012 Sauvignon Blanc also took gold at that show.

Rapaura Springs’ focus on becoming a premium producer was reflected in the continued success, said Mr Neylon. “Our winemaker Michael Bann and his team have worked hard over the last few years to craft some serious expressions and styles to expand the range and place the name in the premium wine stakes.”

Fruit comes predominantly from four family riverside vineyards, but the Rapaura Springs’ story begins far from their soil, at a point where the earth claims a share of the Wairau River, taking it on a six month journey through a rocky aquifer, before releasing it to springs that weave through the vineyards.

“The water emerges crystal clear and perfectly pure, providing both the life source of our vines and the philosophy of our family winery,” said Mr Neylon.
