Snapper Wins Wellington’s Fastest Growing Technology Award

Snapper Wins Wellington’s Fastest Growing Technology Business in Deloitte’s ‘Fast 50 Awards

25 October 2012

Wellington-based company Snapper has scooped the 2012 Deloitte Fast 50 award for the Fastest Growing Technology Business in the lower North Island.

The award places Snapper at 18th out of 50 of the country’s top-performing businesses with revenue growth of nearly 300 percent.

"We’re delighted with this national recognition," Snapper’s CEO, Miki Szikszai said today.

"Snapper is New Zealand’s leading contactless payment system, bringing together the latest technology and the best people."

"The smart technology behind Snapper is what makes it really special, makes it safe, and makes it the fastest way to pay. Snapper processes millions of transactions every month, as Kiwis make the change to get rid of their small change."

“Snapper was made possible by bringing together leading technology, payments, banking, and infrastructure partners from New Zealand and around the world,” he added.

The award comes hard on the heels of Snapper’s CEO being invited to tell the success story of his company in front of global leaders of contactless payment systems in Hong Kong last week.

"Our little Kiwi company is leading the world in mobile phone payments. That expertise has now been recognised, and we’ve been asked to share it with the rest of the world," says Miki Szikszai.

Snapper has also been in contact with Apple about installing the necessary technology in its next generation of iPhone so it can also be part of the Snapper revolution.

In May this year, Snapper launched ‘Touch2Pay with Snapper Mobile’ – a Smart phone application that can be downloaded over the internet so a mobile phone can be upgraded to become a ‘wallet’ to pay for things like the bus, coffee or lunch.

The technology is a first for New Zealand, and the world.

Since it was launched four years ago, Snapper has made loose change for the bus or dairy virtually a thing of the past. Almost half a million Kiwis use Snapper for travel and everyday items.

Ends.
