NZTE Makes New Appointments to Domestic Team

29 October 2012: New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) has made four recent appointments to its New Zealand team.

Alan Koziarski has been appointed as Customer Director in Christchurch and will lead NZTE’s customer teams in the South Island, including the Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin offices.

Alan joined NZTE in 2001 and was previously Regional Director for South and South East Asia based in Singapore, where he led New Zealand’s trade development in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, The Philippines and India. Prior to that, Alan was Director, Globally Competitive Firms, where he led a major initiative focusing on accelerating the growth of New Zealand firms in international markets.

Alan was also responsible for developing and implementing the clusters and networks programme which provided support and advice to established and new industry clusters, including biotech, forestry, food and ICT.

Prior to NZTE, Alan was involved in the start-up of two communications companies and as an international cluster development consultant. His role in cluster development gained international recognition as Vice-President (AP) of The Competitiveness Institute (TCI) in Barcelona. He has an MA (Hons) in Political Science from Canterbury University.

David Downs has been appointed as Customer Director and will lead one of NZTE’s team of customer managers in Auckland.

He is an experienced ICT senior executive with more than 20 years’ experience in both multi-national corporations and small and medium business, in developed as well as emerging markets.

Prior to joining NZTE, David spent 10 years with Microsoft, where he held a number of roles, most recently as Regional Director Professional Services South East Asia based in Singapore. Previously, he led Microsoft’s professional services, marketing and customer and partnerships divisions in New Zealand.

David is also a published author and an award-winning radio and TV presenter.

Mary-Anne Webber has been appointed as Manager Industry Capability Network (NZ) which supports and introduces internationally competitive New Zealand companies into major projects mostly in New Zealand and Australia.

She has a number of years’ senior experience in manufacturing, distribution and export development, as well as central and local government.

Mary-Anne worked for NZTE’s predecessor, Trade New Zealand, in brand, communication and marketing management roles. Before returning to NZTE, she was General Manager Business Growth at Grow Wellington.

Melissa Jenner is the new Head of Better by Design, responsible for the delivery of all aspects of the Better by Design programme and resources.

Melissa has a broad commercial background, gained from working for a range of blue-chip firms in the marketing, technology and financial services sectors.

Most recently she was Director, Global Banking & Investment Solutions at Barclays Wealth Management in London, where she was responsible for leading their global financial markets dealing operations and had commercial responsibility for their sales-trading proposition for HNW private and corporate investors. Prior to Barclays, Melissa was on the management team of the New Zealand Stock Exchange in Wellington (NZX), and also held a role as Global Head of Marketing & Communications for Cantor Fitzgerald in New York.

She has previous experience in building brands, launching new products and services, communications and change strategies, gained in 10 years as an Account Director in advertising and direct marketing agencies in New Zealand and London.
