Insurance Leader of the Year
Last night the insurance industry honoured its best at the 2012 New Zealand Insurance Industry Awards held at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland.
In a difficult and challenging year for insurance companies, effective leadership and advocacy has become increasingly important. One of the most anticipated awards of the evening was Insurance Leader of the Year, presented to the person who “demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities to the benefit of the insurance market in New Zealand.” That person was John Lyon.
John has been the CEO of Lumley since May 2008 and was a pivotal figure during the industry’s response to the Canterbury quakes, both as CEO of Lumley and as past President of the Insurance Council of NZ.
Alistair Smith acting CEO, who accepted the award on John’s behalf, said “John’s leadership during this time was an inspiration to his staff and the wider insurance community, which has no doubt been one of the key drivers behind him receiving this award.”
John is deeply honoured to have been awarded the lnsurance Leader of the Year however recognises that he is a small part of a much larger effort both from Lumley staff and the wider industry.
