Beer Baroness and Liberty Brewing Garamasala Stout Launch

Beer Baroness and Liberty Brewing Garamasala Stout Launch

The Beer Baroness is ready to pour the first of her very own pints,
the culmination of years witnessing the craft beer movement from
behind the bar of Christchurch's iconic craft beer pub and original
free house, Pomeroy's Old Brewery Inn.

The former site of the Harrington's Brewery, Ava Wilson started
managing the family business when the pub was, "all Harrngton's plus
one guest tap. Today I'm looking at 25 craft beer taps, we are at the
centre of the craft beer revolution in this country and the passion of
our community is at an all time high".

This is a passion Wilson reflects. Committing herself to joining the
Brewers Guild of New Zealand as an Executive Member, her involvement
with the industry has led to an inevitable conclusion.

"I wanted to learn to brew and understand more about beer", says
Wilson. "With our involvement in setting up Four Avenues Brewing Co. I
found myself staring at 1200L shiny steel tanks and thinking that it
would be crazy to pass up the perfect opportunity to fill them with my
own beer."

Wilson acknowledges the rise of women in beer, but from the outset
didn't want Beer Baroness to make "female specific" beers. "I'm not
sure such a thing exists! At the end of the day it's all about good
beer. We all appreciate quality, depth of flavour, well made brews no
matter your gender."

Wilson's discussions with brewers led to the idea of launching with a
series of collaborations with her friends in the craft beer community.
"For me, I'm approaching this from both sides of the taps, so I'm
learning from the brewers, whose beer I'm so familiar serving and drinking over
the years".

The first offering defies the season, a Summer Stout. At 4.3%, it is
brewed with one of the country's most progressive and exciting
brewers, Joseph Wood from Liberty Brewing. He describes it as a,
"robust chocolate stout, but that has cinnamon for sweetness, pepper
for heat, nutmeg for complexity and coriander which imparts a lemony
texture."

Wilson stresses it's a beer first and foremost, albeit spiced. "It's
not a Chai", she laughs. "It's a delicious stout with the lightness
that comes with a touch of spice".

Wood concurs. "It's a really interesting and inviting beer. Extremely
moreish, satisfying, surprisingly refreshing and cleansing. It's
perfect for this pre-Christmas season."

Released tomorrow, Thursday December 13 at Pomeroy's On Kilmore, Beer
Baroness and Liberty Brewing GM Stout will be available in limited
quantities across the country from discerning craft beer bars.

The follow up brew, a collaboration with Epic Beer's Luke Nicholas may
also make an appearance before the year's end. A yet to be named hoppy
red ale, you'll need to follow the Beer Baroness on Twitter or
Facebook for all launch details.
