Lumley announces recovery update

Lumley Insurance announced today that it will complete its earthquake repair and rebuild programme for Canterbury residential customers in October 2015. The Lumley Canterbury Response Unit (CRU) has produced a comprehensive timeline taking into account various land zone and geotechnical requirements to ensure continued progress for its Canterbury customers.

John Lyon, CEO of Lumley, says, “We are confident that the programme we have in place realistically reflects the size and scale of the work involved in resolving our residential claims. The next six months will be critical in maintaining momentum for the Canterbury rebuild. By utilising the specialist skills and resources we have available during this intense rebuild phase, we believe we can deliver the programme on time for our customers.”

Underpinning the programme are geotechnical drilling requirements, and Lumley is in the process of finalising exclusive use of an additional Cone Penetrative Testing (CPT) rig. This sophisticated drill will significantly add to the capacity of the company’s geotechnical investigations, said Mr Lyon.

Each Lumley claim will have an individual timeline developed, and Lumley Case Managers will be discussing these personalised rebuild/repair strategies with customers in the New Year. Lumley is working with CERA and external agencies to identify particularly vulnerable customers and ensure their claims are prioritised within the timeline.

In September the company expanded its response unit on the ground in Christchurch with the creation of the CRU to provide a faster, more efficient resolution to all earthquake claims. Since then, the focus has been on creating this detailed rebuild/repair programme that encompasses all remaining earthquake claims.

To date, Lumley has completed 50 new homes for its customers and has 106 rebuilds currently under construction. More than 100 major repairs are underway, while hundreds of emergency repairs and paths/driveways/fences have been completed. The company has settled 50 per cent of all its domestic earthquake claims.
