New Zealand Wool Services International Limited’s General Manager, Mr John Dawson reports that the combined North and South Island Wool Auction comprising 13,900 bales saw a 90 percent clearance despite a firmer NZ dollar.

The weighted indicator for the main trading currency’s compared to the last sale on 8th February was up 1.2 percent.

Mr Dawson advises that although some types eased slightly today relative to the dollars impact and quieter Chinese interest due to their vacation, the overall tone was buoyant with most sellers meeting the market.

A nominal offering of Mid Micron fleece were firm to 2 percent easier.

Fine Crossbred fleece and longer shears ranged from firm to 4 percent softer with shorter types 3 to 6 percent stronger. Coarse Crossbred fleece were generally firm to slightly easier with North Island poorer styles easing the most.

Longer coarse shears were firm to 2 percent down with shorter types frim to 3 percent dearer.

Fine First Lambs fleece were up to 4.5 percent stronger with coarser types firm to 2 percent cheaper.

Combing oddments lifted by 1.5 to 4 percent. Good colour short oddments remained firm with poorer styles strongly contested, increasing 3 to 6 percent.

Limited competition with China, India and Australiasia principals, supported by Western Europe, United Kingdom and the Middle East.

Next sale on 21st February comprises approximately 9500 bales from the North Island and 6400 bales from the South Island.
