Economy, Lifestyle Attract Big Legal Talent to Tauranga

Economic Growth and Lifestyle Attracting Big Legal Talent to Tauranga

TAURANGA, Friday 1st March: An enviable lifestyle coupled with attractive and challenging job opportunities in one of the fastest-growing regions in the country is attracting top calibre talent to the Bay, much to the delight of local law firm, Sharp Tudhope Lawyers.

The firm, which has a rich, 116-year history with the city, has just announced major changes within the firm including the promotion of Richard Kettelwell to Partner, the appointment of new senior staff to its Litigation and Property Teams and the establishment of a new Trusts division.

Sharp Tudhope General Manager, Peter Wilson, credits this insurgence of new talent in the Bay to the stimulated local economy as well as a change in perception regarding the city.

“With much expansion projected in our primary industries over the next 20 years, aggressive marketing campaigns in the main metropolitans and a shift-change in perceptions about Tauranga, the city is fast becoming a real option for professionals looking for a change.

“The creation of our Trusts division as well as the appointment of highly-skilled lawyers enticed back from around the country and in one case, internationally, is evidence for us that the outlook for the region is positive,” he adds.

Wilson comments that the promotion of Richard Kettelwell to Partner completes the strong partnership at Sharp Tudhope. Kettelwell specialises in leaky homes, building and construction law.

Wilson says it is Kettelwell’s tenacity and dedication to his clients and the firm itself that made him an obvious choice for Partner.

“We are very pleased to welcome Richard into our Partnership. He has made exceptional contributions to the advancement of the firm in the seven years he has been with us and we know he will continue to do so as the firm undertakes new endeavours,” says Wilson.

One new direction is the establishment of the Trust division, headed by one of the firm’s new appointments, Gavin Cairns (Associate); a senior practitioner with over 12 years’ experience in his area of specialty.

Joining Cairns in the Property team is Hamish Murray (Associate), with over 14 years’ experience in property and commercial law. Karen Gravatt (Consultant), who specialises in family issues, including relationship and de facto property, and Trust work rounds out the experienced Property team. Michelle Paddison (Associate), who specialises in dispute resolution, and Victoria Brewer (Solicitor), who has significant trial experience, are the latest additions to the firm’s Litigation team.
