New Zealand Wool Services International Limited’s General Manager, Mr John Dawson reports that the 9,200 bales on offer at the South Island sale this week saw an 89 percent clearance with a generally firm to slightly dearer market.

The weighted indicator for the main trading currencies was 0.99 percent softer than the last sale on 7th March assisting local price levels.

Mr Dawson advises that a nominal offering of Mid Micron wools 26 to 31.5 micron ranged from firm to 7 percent dearer. A limited offering of longer Fine Crossbred Fleece 32 to 35 micron were firm to 3 percent dearer with longer shears fully firm and shorter shears up to 3 percent stronger.

Coarse Crossbred Fleece were firm to slightly dearer with longer shears fully firm and shorter shears up to 1.5 percent stronger.

Short First Lambs were firm to 2 percent dearer with longer types 1 to 3 percent stronger. Crossbred Oddments were generally 1.5 percent firmer except the poorer style short types which were 4 to 7 percent dearer.

Limited competition with China, Australasia and India principals, supported by Western Europe and the Middle East.

Next sale on 21st March comprises approximately 13,300 bales from the North Island and 8,950 bales from the South Island.
