‘Entries open for the 2013 Spiegelau International Wine Competition’

This year’s event is again anticipating entries from all over the globe, culminating in a comprehensive, independent review of wines available on the New Zealand market.

Judges include a number of international guests such as Phil Reedman MW from Adelaide, Adrian Atkinson from the UK and Annette Scarfe MW from Singapore. Accompanying them will be some of New Zealand’s most experienced and respected judges, the majority of whom judge every year at this event, helping to provide consistency.

Trophy sponsors are a number of high profile companies and their brands including Singapore Airlines, Silver Fern Farms, Caffe L’affare, Scenic Hotel Group, Liquorland, Antipodes Water and the Gow Langsford Gallery.

The Spiegelau International Wine Competition provides a number of clear points of difference with other New Zealand-based wine shows:

• 100% independent – the event is owned and organised by Wine Competition Ltd

• Judging is conducted using four, style-specific glasses ensuring the wines are appraised in the most authentic way

• Bottles of wine not required during the judging process are donated to the Cresswell Jackson New Zealand Wine Trust for auction and proceeds are returned to the New Zealand wine industry via grants and scholarships.

• In recognition of the investment required to enter wine competitions, the Spiegelau International Wine Competition is offering a 10% discount for any companies entering more than 30 wines

Competition Director, Belinda Jackson says, “We are always looking for ways to improve the relevance and value of this event for all stakeholders; the wine industry, sponsors and wine consumers’.
