Saunders & Co Lawyers Return to the Heart of the
City
It has been more than two years in the making but Saunders & Co are one of the first law firms to return to the heart of Christchurch, 131 Victoria Street. The move into new premises is an unbeatable morale booster for the head office staff and a genuine testimonial of the firm’s commitment to the city rebuild.
Formerly based in Ernst Young House, neighbouring the ill-fated PGC building, the February 2011 earthquake forced Saunders & Co to relocate to Burnside. John Bates, General Manager explains, “Kendal Ave has been a unique experience and the locals have been very welcoming. However, the reality is we have been crammed into a third of the space we need. It is challenging for a professional firm to maintain service quality in those conditions. Our clients expect and deserve more.”
David Lang, partner adds, “The morale boost it will give to our staff is the very best thing about the move. Their resilience has been first class, and we are glad we can now reward their faith in us.”
With safety high on everyone’s wish list, Saunders & Co’s new office (formerly occupied by Warren and Mahoney) is 100% building code compliant and ticks all the boxes, “we've seen first hand the structural improvements the owner has made to ensure that target was reached.” John Bates says.
For the firm, which includes five staff awarded for rescue efforts at the PGC site, this move is also a way to support the rebuild effort. Partner, Toby Giles, one of those awarded, says, “Without the support of professional firms and businesses the CBD would struggle to rebound. Victoria St will be a vibrant and exciting place to work, and a great vantage point to observe the rebirth of central Christchurch.”
