Suunto upgrades the App Zone to offer new opportunities

Suunto upgrades the App Zone to offer users new opportunities

In keeping with their commitment to improving their services to users, Suunto are upgrading the Suunto App Zone, the community forum where users can find and create free Apps for the Ambit GPS watch. At the same time, Suunto’s online sports community Movescount.com, which hosts the App Zone, will also be updated to offer a new look and feel, providing more possibilities for in-depth analysis and sharing.

Since the launch of the App Zone in November 2012, Ambit users have created over 5,000 Apps for their watches, and more are created every day, allowing the Ambit to evolve with users’ needs. The Apps range from a ‘Fat Burner’ App that lets you train in your optimal fat-burning zone to an ‘Oxygen Level’ App that displays the percentage of O2 in the air at a given altitude to help mountaineers acclimatize.

Suunto have also created their own Apps. These include, for example, ‘Marathon Time’ which lets you see your estimated finish time while you run, ‘Current Incline’ which displays the steepness of a climb and an App that tells you how many slopes you've skied at the end of a day.

The App Zone upgrade, scheduled for the end of April, will give users the opportunity to create and share more advanced Apps. A new code editor will let users modify Apps more freely: conditional statements, new functions and variables will become available, as well as the chance to log the App result for analysis in Movescount.

At the same time, Movescount .com will be upgraded to offer members new tools for getting the most out of their sports, including enhanced navigation, a new visual style and improved opportunities for sharing and reliving their favorite sporting moments.

Comments Suunto Head of Digital Services Janne Kallio: “The new capabilities of the App Zone truly bring power to consumers. Now, only your imagination is the limit on what the Ambit can do with Apps. Movescount.com will also see the biggest update since its launch in 2010. We are implementing many of the things our users have been asking for to ensure a great experience when viewing and analysing your sports activities.”
