Sound recommendations for health and safety
BusinessNZ says the independent taskforce’s report on workplace health and safety takes a serious and balanced approach to the challenge of improving safety in New Zealand workplaces.
Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly says the taskforce has considered the widest range of issues implicated in New Zealand’s health and safety statistics, and its findings will help inform government action.
“One disturbing finding has been the poor state of information on injuries, health and fatalities in the workplace; for example, there is currently no comprehensive or reliable data for monitoring workplace harm.
“The recommendation for the proposed new health and safety agency to be able to collect comprehensive data is fundamental to improving health outcomes in the workplace. Good decisions about the protection of health in the workplace can only be made on the basis of good evidence.
“Improving New Zealand’s workplace health and safety outcomes is of critical importance. The taskforce has delivered a sound set of recommendations for Government to consider and if appropriate, act on.”
