DTR Gets Kiwis on the Move

DTR Gets Kiwis on the Move

A mobility scooter is a life-changing tool and helps users to get back out into the community, participate in family events, or simply enjoy the freedom of being able to get out of the house without assistance.

Retiree, Gwen Nash was recently awarded a mobility scooter from dtr Hastings as part of dtr’s Local Heroes Competition. As an amputee, the scooter has transformed her life, enabling her to get back her independence and out into the community without relying on family to assist her. dtr is now looking to find another Kiwi like Gwen for whom mobility would mean a world of difference.

These scooters are part of dtr’s brand new Independent Living category, which is being launched at dtr stores nationwide. To celebrate, dtr Panmure is offering one lucky recipient the chance to win a brand new mobility scooter.

The entries are being judged by an inspirational Aucklander who has overcome disability to become an award-winning athlete. Cam Calkoen was born with cerebral palsy, but has triumphed over physical limitations to inspire others to achieve success in the face of adversity. He’ll be working with dtr to review the entries and pick the most deserving nominee.

One of the major issues associated with reduced mobility is that people often struggle with the financial burden associated with their disability.

To help bring these mobility scooters within reach of everyday New Zealanders, dtr has mobility scooters available to rent with prices starting from $33.50 a week. Or, with local grants available from Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ) of up to $60.17 a week, there is chance that yourself or a loved one could qualify for some financial assistance.

But one worthy person will win one of their very own – and be given the gift of independence and the chance of a whole new lease on life.

Entries close for dtr’s mobility scooter Friday 24th May, so make sure you pick up an entry form in dtr stores Auckland-wide so you can nominate yourself or a deserving person in need.

The winner will be announced at dtr Panmure on Monday 27 May.
