Feilding Auto Electrical Winter Race Series

Feilding Auto Electrical Winter Race Series

We are delighted to announce that the entry forms and draft regulations are ready to go for the 2013 FAEWSR. We would like to acknowledge the fantasic support that Huw and Kathy have made the club for this series. If you have any Auto Electrical issues give them a call 06 3238427.

In 2012 we did some investigation and we firmly believe that this series is the biggest of its type in the Southern Hemisphere. No mean feat!! For 2013 we have made a few subtle changes to increase the competition for everyone and that it will give you, our racers a greater chance of being a true champion, not someone that beat 3 others for a title.

In the RS Cup, our entry level class, we are aware of at least 3 more cars, including a Holden Commodore Stationwagon that have been built. Even this morning we were made aware of another potential car. We would like to point out that if your car is Warranted and Registered, you do not need a cage. You do need a logbook, race harness, and Fire Extinguisher but believe us, bang for your buck this is a huge ammount of fun. Maximum average lap speed peaks at 118kph, so stop worrying, just do it!! We threatened to enter the Previa, just to prove that you can race anything in the RS Cup and be competitive. We have also had interest from lots of new people, and over the last 15 days I have completed 15 new or upgrades to licences. Next week I have another 2 booked and a possible 20 more on Wednesday. This is great news for our region to have such a huge growth in tough times. We will keep you updated with our new competitors progress. Plus the special trophy for the RS Cup, Trudy's Trophy for the first car across the line at Round 3 race 2 to remember our great friend who was taken from us far to early.

The new class for 2013, the SF Cup is for cars between 1.25-1.32. We have had at least 3 new cars built for this class, and this will make the series more competitive for our breaking out RS guys and slower IB racers from 2012. No doubt some more great racing will be had with the addition of the MX5 Cup boys. And what a huge success the MX5 Cup has been, from 6 cars last year, we have now built 15! Watch for the guys who ran over summer to be real contenders, Andrew Watson, Justin Allen and the Hogg Brothers with Mike Dunn will be the ones to watch. We welcome our new racers from the Hawkes Bay, Tim, Dennis and Neville, plus locals Jarred, Troy and Reon. Welcome to Hairdressers club boys, we know that you have some serious fun ahead of you. Some of our old boys will do the occasional round to keep these lads in check, but it will be exciting times ahead. Watch out if it rains!!!

The IB Cup in 2012 was a revelation. In round 2, 43 cars started, and it was an amazing sight. There are some people that believe 18 cars make a race. Clearly these people have never seen a full grid, let alone the excitment it brings our racers. IB will be a difficult class to win this year, last year wiley Colin Hoare did the business, who will be consistant enough over 12 races to take the title in 2013?

ICS have resigned as our GT Cup sponsors, thanks Phill for your continued support of this "no holds barred" class. We have seen some truely amazing races in the GT Cup , I certainly remember fondly the Thurston, Huxford and Parkin battles, and to be honest I have not seen anything better since that day. There are some exciting cars out for this years series, the new Smith Crawford, Halligans Tranzam and whispers that the Jones Camaro will also be out for round 1. Hang onto your hats, it is going to be fast!!

The Fujistu Classics wowed the crowds at the New Zealand Grand Prix meeting. We are very proud to have these great Pre1978 cars racing and with the addition of the European Cup we expect some very high quality racing and cars to be present. It is timely to acknowledge that the current format of racing we run at the Winter series actually came from the Classic class. The level of interest in the series was so high and our other racers expressed their desire to have the same race formats, that we converted the whole series over to the scratch and 2 handicap formula, and we have never looked back. We thank you guys for your support, now in the 11th year, and still as good looking as ever.

Last year we dabbled with Formula Libre, and while numbers were a little down, we are continuing with this class because we want to support the development of Single seater/Sports car/Formula Ford racing at this level. Our commitment to help the Sabre Speedsport Scholarship driver simply backs up the results that Dennis has had over the years. You may have heard of drivers such as Ritchie Stanaway, Brendon Hartley, and Shane van Gisbergen. We have been privileged enough to witness these young men at the start of their career; something to be very proud of. So if you have a single seater, sports car, formula ford, historic we would love to have you as part of the series. We would like to have a special round at the final with a lot of historic cars, to help celebrate the 40th year of the track, but we will have more about that later.

We have Superkarts at Round 1, these guys are great to watch and we love having them at our first round. It just proves that when groups with similar outcomes work together you can get a fantastic result for everyone. Perhaps some parties that think they are at a higher level of motorsport could take some notes about now......

For you, our racers, we have changed our online entry system a bit to make it a lot easier to use. We only require basic information from you and have given you payment options from this. We do require a paper form to meet MSNZ requirements, but once we have this on file, we only require you to use the online form to confirm your entry and make payment for subsequent rounds. At the same website, you can also renew your membership as well, and also sign up to this newsletter if you are not already on our list.

For our spectators, we have not increased the gate price, $10 adult that gets you a free Hotdog or Hot chips plus the race program. This is a great deal for a days entertainment, and a great day to spend with your kids. The Father's Day final also gives you the chance to go for rides in trucks and witness the truck expo in the stadium. Last year exceeded all expectations - we are expecting more in 2013.

Thanks for your time, we hope to see you this year at NZ's most Competitive Race Series, the Feilding Auto Electrical Winter Race Series.
