Keeping Tots Warm From Top to Toe

WINTER FEATURE MAY 2013

Keeping Tots Warm From Top to Toe

Winter chills are no fun, and it’s particularly hard to know how to keep kids the right temperature – especially wee ones who can’t yet tell us how they feel!

Louise Tanguay from The Sleep Store is a child sleep expert, and knows exactly what every parent needs to make sure their little people are comfortable and just the right temperature throughout winter. Here are her top five picks for this season:

Gro Egg

A Gro Egg is a fun room thermometer that changes colour to show when it’s too hot, too cold or just the right temperature in children’s rooms – helping you maintain a safe sleeping environment. Glowing blue for too cold, red for too hot and yellow for just right – the Gro Egg even works as a gentle night-light. The changing colours are an easy reminder for you to cool or heat the room, or to modify your baby’s clothing. Surprisingly, a lot of parents keep babies too warm in winter, which can lead to overheating – this is the perfect tool to make sure you get it just right. RRP $79.95 from www.thesleepstore.co.nz

Woolbabe Duvet Weight Bags

Woolbabe Sleeping Bags are some of the
warmest and snuggliest winter sleeping bags available! They’re the only bags in the world which use a quilted wool filling for additional warmth and optimum temperature regulation (most winter bags are filled with synthetic polyester or cotton wadding!). Woolbabe Sleep Bags are perfect from autumn until spring, for keeping your baby at the perfect temperature, so that they’ll, well, sleep like a baby all night long. The inner is 100% wool, the outside is a gorgeous merino-cotton blend fabric, and it’s lined with a smooth 100% cotton lining – the perfect combination of fabrics for your little one. RRP $159, exclusively from www.thesleepstore.co.nz

Snugglebum Pyjamas

These are the pyjamas that kids seriously will not want to take off (perhaps a longer sleep in could be on the cards?!). Made with an ultra-soft, 100% warmer weight cotton knit, the Snugglebum pjs live up to their name. The snug-fitting, all-inone sleeper helps kids keep extra warm on cold winter nights, plus a full-length zipper and snap tab makes them easy to change (yay for mums with wriggly kids!). Enclosed feet complete the perfect pj picture – warm toes all around, and grips on the soles of feet to reduce slippage. RRP $49.95, from www.thesleepstore.co.nz

Woolbabe Swaddles

Woolbabe fabric is a divine mixture of super-soft cotton and merino, making a swaddle that’s not only soft and luscious – it also helps to regulate baby’s temperature in the cooler months, which can help them to settle more quickly. The generous 110 x 110cm size means these wraps are brilliant for babies from newborn until six months – as a swaddle, or a light blanket in a bassinet, cot or buggy. RRP $59.95, exclusively from www.thesleepstore.co.nz

Lamington Socks

Cold feet can wake chilly children early, so help your little ones sleep longer in the mornings with Lamington knee-high merino socks. Made in New Zealand from a winning combination of 80% merino, 15% nylon and 5% elastic (to keep ’em up!), Lamington socks are perfect for the whole family – from newborn to ‘Mum’ size. Starting from RRP $14.95 from www.thesleepstore.co.nz
