Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres Proposes to Sell Retail Business in New Zealand

Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres announced today that it has put forward a proposal to sell its Beaurepaires and Goodyear Auto Service Centre retail businesses in New Zealand to Beau Ideal Ltd. The companies have not disclosed the purchase price. If the sale proposal proceeds, the transaction is anticipated to be completed by June 30, 2013.

The company said the proposal comes after a lengthy review of its business strategy and a decision to focus the New Zealand business on marketing and wholesaling tyres, and improving its services to tyre dealers and aviation customers.

The Beaurepaires business includes 52 company-owned retail stores and approximately 180 employees. Should the proposal proceed, it is intended that all stores and associated employees would transfer to Beau Ideal Ltd. The transaction would also include the company’s Beaurepaires and Goodyear Auto Service Centre retail marketing and licensing programs in New Zealand. Consultations on the proposal have begun with affected staff.

Beau Ideal Ltd is a New Zealand owned and operated company whose management have over 25 years tyre industry experience and expertise, both nationally and internationally. Should the proposal proceed, Beau Ideal Ltd has indicated that it intends to continue operating and expanding Beaurepaires in New Zealand. They have stated that their priority will be to bring choice, convenience and price competitiveness to consumers, and to further promote Goodyear’s brand awareness in the marketplace.

Campbell Gough, New Zealand sales & marketing director for Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres, said company will work with affected employees and the union to find the best solution through the consultation process.

“Our primary focus over the coming weeks is on the employees and their families. Should the proposal proceed, we will assist in the transition of associates to the new employer. We appreciate the service of those in the New Zealand Beaurepaires business,” he said.

Gough said that Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres and Beau Ideal Ltd are both are committed to ensuring a seamless transition for retail and fleet customers of the Beaurepaires and Goodyear Auto Service Centre locations should the proposal proceed. It is intended that there will be no interruption to tyre services or supply.

“We will continue to sell, distribute and offer through our wholesale distribution network the same outstanding consumer tyres for cars, 4WDs and light trucks, as well as commercial tyres for trucks and buses,” he said.

“Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres will continue to be a major supporter of the New Zealand automotive industry.”
