Cycle Trail on Peppers Portage Doorstep

Cycle Trail on Peppers Portage Doorstep

28 May 2013: Right on the doorstep of Peppers Portage Marlborough Sounds is one of the latest additions to the New Zealand Cycle Trail, the picturesque Queen Charlotte Track.

The Queen Charlotte track is the 21st Great Ride on the New Zealand Cycle Trail, a national project to build a world class network of predominantly off-road trails that showcase the very best of New Zealand's landscape, environment, culture and heritage.

Stefan Kracke, General Manager, Peppers Portage Marlborough Sounds says, "I've cycled the trail many times and it's spectacular, especially at this time of the year when the trees are changing colour and dropping their leaves and there aren't as many hikers and walkers around. The views over the Queen Charlotte and Keneperu Sounds are stunning."

The 70 km mountain bike ride from historic Ship's Cove to Anakiwa in the Marlborough Sounds is a Grade 4 (out of 5) ride that can be as easy or challenging as you want to make it. The trail can either be biked over 4 days, 2 days or just as day trips, bikes and transfers can be booked at the resort.

Peppers Portage Marlborough Sounds is a perfect base to explore the nearby tracks, which are right on the lodge's doorstep. The lodge has a great two-night deal staying in a Kowhai Lodge Room starting at just $450, for two people, twin share, including tasting platter on arrival and continental breakfast. Valid for travel between 1 June - 15 October 2013*. (Book online at www.peppers.co.nz or phone 0800-275-373).

Peppers Portage is a fitting complement to a day on the trail with its pristine waterside setting, and restaurant cuisine which features a seasonal menu making the most of locally sourced produce as well as herbs from the resort's garden.

"There isn't a shortage of fresh seafood in the Marlborough Sounds, green lipped mussels are harvested in the bay in front of the resort; Keneperu Sounds is renowned for snapper and the region is also one of the country's leading producers of Sauvignon Blanc, a perfect complement to seafood,” says Stefan.

Peppers Portage offers guests a range of accommodation and dining options. Relax with a wine in the Retro Bar or dine at either Weka Restaurant - backdropped by sweeping views of the Marlborough Sounds - or Snapper Cafe and Bar.
