Chamber Welcomes Council’s Amalgamation Vote
Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce welcomes the City Council’s decision to support rationalisation of local government across the region, says CEO Raewyn Bleakley.
“It’s great to see such strong support for some form of amalgamation. It moves the debate on.
“The Chamber is strongly in favour of a move towards amalgamation.
“Though we have taken a view that favours a two-tier approach, we look forward to a robust debate about which model will work best and which areas should be included.
“The Chamber will join the debate because we are firmly of the belief that amalgamation is necessary if the region is to progress.
“Rationalisation in some form is better for the region economically than none at all.
“In the end, we are looking for the best outcome for the region.”
