Symposium to unpick New Zealand’s productivity performance
Symposium to unpick New Zealand’s productivity performance
A Symposium focused on New Zealand’s productivity paradox is being held in Wellington on 2 July. Murray Sherwin, Chair of the Productivity Commission, says “Despite having generally sound regulatory, policy and institutional settings, productivity growth has been persistently low in New Zealand compared with many other OECD countries.”
“This is the paradox that this symposium will be exploring. Improving New Zealand’s productivity performance is critical to provide people with wider and better choices in their day to day living. We are bringing both local and international expertise together to better understand New Zealand’s productivity situation and what the key barriers have been to better performance. The Symposium will help shape research and policy work aimed at lifting New Zealand’s productivity.
“The Commission is working with a number of other government agencies to convene this symposium. Presenters across a range of disciplines and industries will attend. Their insights across sectors such as ICT, capital markets, transport and construction will be highly valuable”, said Mr Sherwin.
The Symposium is being held in conjunction with the New Zealand Association of Economists’ 54th Annual Conference which follows 3-5 July 2013. The Symposium programme is attached.
