Danish Railways project uses Wellington Start-Up’s software

Media Release

Immediate release 6 July 2013

Multi billion dollar Danish Railways project uses Wellington Start-Up’s software

A US$3.5 billion overhaul of Denmark’s railway system is being masterminded with the help of a software tool developed by a Wellington Start-Up.

The tool, DoView, is the creation of former Fulbright Senior Scholar Dr Paul Duignan who is an international pioneer in the new area of visual strategic planning and outcomes thinking.

Originally developed for his own consultancy, Parker Duignan Consulting, the software now has thousands of users in more than 40 countries.

Duignan developed the software with a small Wellington-based team: Paul’s son Dr Matthew Duignan who was doing a PhD in computer science from Victoria University at the time and who now works for Microsoft in Seattle; software engineer Richard Procter; and business manager Jennifer Parker.

“Seeing our software, developed in Wellington, being used to manage a US$3.5 billion project shows what we can do down in this part of the world with innovative ideas,” said Paul Duignan.

“We already knew that DoView works wonders for small and medium-sized enterprises but we are really chuffed to discover that it’s helping one of Denmark’s largest ever infrastructure projects.

“The Danish Railway project is using our software to make sure that the potential benefits of the investment drive the technical decisions that they’re making.

“DoView is helping avoid getting bogged down in the massive technical detail involved in planning such a mega-project,” said Dr Duignan.

Anders Lund, a management consultant on the Danish railway project, said he used DoView as his primary tool for “documenting work related to benefits”.

“We use DoView to develop and depict how benefits and intermediate benefits are related to business changes. By doing that we ensure that the organisations keep their ‘eyes on the price’ – that is, let the benefit-driven logic scope the technical projects,” Mr Lund said.

“With this news about the Danish mega-project using DoView, we’re now certain that our software can add strategic value to any sized organisation or project with its unique offering,” said Dr Duignan.

“We are responding by ramping up our marketing effort to get the DoView message out there. We’ve just taken on Wheldon Curzon-Hobson as a our strategic relations manager and the team’s really excited about where we can go with DoView internationally,” Dr Duignan concluded.
