NZ Winery Secures Multi-Million Dollar China Export Deal

New Zealand winery Allan Scott Family Winemakers has secured a significant wine export deal with more than 200,000 bottles of wine to be shipped to China in the first year alone.

The wine is destined for high-end restaurants and premium hotel chains throughout the country.

Company Managing Director, Allan Scott, says the export agreement is a major coup for the winery which has been able to capitalise on the burgeoning interest in white wines in China.

Scott says the initial shipment will include the company's sauvignon blanc chardonnay, pinot noir and method traditionnelle.

"In the past, China has shown more interest in red varietals so we are very excited to see how receptive they are to our New Zealand white wines, which are highly regarded globally," says Scott.

Scott, who planted the family's first vineyard in Marlborough in 1975, is thrilled to see his family winery achieve such a high degree of international success.

He says it was the familial aspect of the brand that helped it achieve cut-through in the competitive Chinese market.

Scott believes that owning their own vineyard and winery illustrates to their Chinese trade partners the company is in control of the product from end to end.

"This shows we are able to maintain a high degree of quality from the growing of the grapes on our vines and the harvesting to the bottling and marketing of our wines," he says.

"We found that it was important to Chinese retailers and distributors that there was a clearly visible supply chain, with credible individuals prepared to put their name to the brand," he says.
