Airports Association welcomes new Invercargill Airport terminal

New Zealand Airports Association Chief Executive Kevin Ward welcomed news of the decision to build a new terminal at Invercargill Airport.

“As the gateways providing essential air transport links between our regions and the rest of the world, airports are critical infrastructure and significant drivers of regional economies.

“The new terminal will be a significant investment that is sure to bring long-term benefits, as the existing terminal has over its half century of service.

“The airport gives the first and last impression of a city to many visitors, and the new terminal will reflect the positive nature of the region.

“The city has worked the old terminal hard, and got great value from the decisions taken in the 1960s, but key infrastructure must keep up with changing demands, especially in aviation. Future users of the airport will no doubt be applauding this move for years to come,” said Mr Ward.

New Zealand Airports Association is the industry association for New Zealand’s airports and related businesses. It is a not-for-profit organisation whose members operate 33 airports that span the country and enable the essential air transport links between each region of New Zealand and between New Zealand and the world. www.nzairports.co.nz
