Local Jeweller in Running for Gem of an International Award

Wellington’s Inspired Jewellery Group could win gold of their own in the prestigious 2013 New Zealand International Business Awards – the only company in the capital to make the finals in their category.

Inspired Jewellery Group is short-listed in the Award’s Best Use of Design in the International Business category, competing against 3i Innovation Limited, BurgerFuel Worldwide Limited, Serato, Tru-Test Group – all from Auckland.

The New Zealand International Business Awards are among the highest accolades an export business can aspire to achieve with the overall winner taking home $100,000. Celebrating the passion, vision and new approaches that New Zealand businesses are taking to achieve global success, the Awards are run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE).

Ian Douglas, Inspired Jewellery Group’s co-founder says being selected as a finalist is testament to the business’s design-led approach and passion for innovation.

“At the core of our business is an unswerving belief that we have something unique and special to offer.

“Our business model is continually refined as we build relationships with manufacturing and retail partners around the world. We are passionate about reflecting nature, architecture, cityscapes and landscapes in new ways, offering beautifully designed pieces that people around the world desire.”

Inspired Jewellery Group is currently working with respected companies in China, North America, India, the UK, and Australasia on jewellery-collection design, prototype development and manufacturing. Over the last three years, the Group has invested heavily into growing its international brand recognition to establish royalty structures and create a platform for rapid growth.

Its recent successes include a deal with Hiersun, China’s largest privately owned jewellery company to design annual collections for its 300 ‘I Do’ stores. Inspired Jewellery Group is also in high level discussions with major several international jewellery brands following its co-invention of a revolutionary diamond setting that makes the diamond appear to float above the finger. It is the first significant jewellery design change in a century, and one that will revolutionise the industry.

The 2013 New Zealand International Business Awards judging panel comprises Graham Turley from ANZ, Phil O'Reilly from BusinessNZ, professional company director John Loughlin, managing director of Hunter's Wines Jane Hunter, Janine Smith from AsureQuality, New Zealand-based entrepreneur Tim Williams, KPMG executive chair Ross Buckley, NZTE board member Julie Christie, and Convenor of Judges and General Manager of Internal Partners at NZTE, Suzanne Stew.

Together they scrutinised more than 160 entries across 68 companies before settling on the 29 finalists.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony, on September 26th in Auckland.

Inspired Jewellery Group is a very different kind of jewellery business. They have been designing and crafting jewellery in their workshop for over 30 years and in that time they have learned that good design should inspire, it should endure and it should create a positive reaction. They aim to understand their clients, what their needs are, and then come up with clever and creative solutions that exceed their expectations.

They believe that people buy jewellery because they have an emotional connection to it. They let their clients and surroundings inspire them whether they are an individual or a international company, whether that inspiration has come from Wellington, Beijing or New York City. Their award winning designers and craftsmen create designs for clients all over the world, individual pieces and collections that forge a whole new design direction yet retain a practical, wearable aesthetic. Creating jewellery art forms that can be worn everyday.

They’re obsessive about providing excellence in the creation of their designs and service to all of their clients. They are different from their industry in that they work in a very collaborative manner, all their designs start from the heart, with hand drawn design, a pencil and paper and a burning desire to be different. They then combine traditional craftsmanship and cutting edge technology to execute those designs. They aim to radically change peoples perceptions of what they thought was possible in a diamond ring.

The New Zealand International Business Awards are organised by NZTE, with the support of Strategic Partner ANZ. They celebrate New Zealand business success in the world and recognise professional excellence and innovative practice. They provide an opportunity for New Zealand businesses to benchmark performance, build capability and boost employee morale. For more information on the Awards ceremony visit www.nzte.govt.nz/awards
