New planning requirements for councils helpful
Most local councils will welcome their new obligations to develop long term plans for their infrastructural and strategic assets, the Employers and Manufacturers Association says.
"The new requirements bring local councils into line with sound business practice," said EMA's chief executive Kim Campbell.
"They are much needed to ensure local councils know what assets they own and what they will cost to keep them in good repair.
"Auckland Council already does this and its timely for other councils to follow suit.
"The new requirements also align with how the state at national level manages its infrastructural assets on behalf of the tax payer."
