Start-up receives grant for 3D printer production

Start-up company fre3formD™ receives Government grant to establish 3D printer production in Wellington

Wellington 6 November 2013 – Gordon Dykes, Director of fre3formD™ successfully applied for funding from the NZ Government’s Enterprise Grant scheme. This grant allows the company to purchase equipment to expand the production of the rep rap printer and provide training courses in 3D printing.

Gordon, 29, an Electrical Engineer with 11 years’ experience has spent the past 2 years researching and developing a rep rap (self-replicating) 3D domestic printer, to the proof of concept stage. The grant allows the company to take the concept into production.

Currently, there are very limited options for purchasing domestic 3D printers in NZ. There are several imported and a few domestically produced printers available, but fre3formD™’s design allows for future adjustment for pick and place robotics, as well as the normal 3D printing. This versatility of design will be of major benefit for teaching institutions, which require equipment that allow for a number of teaching applications. Added to this is the benefit for local support and training.

To introduce the concept to the public, fre3formD™ is running a 3D introductory training session in Lower Hutt on Thursday 21 November at 6pm.
