JUCY takes out top prize at tourism Oscars

JUCY Rentals has won Best Car/Campervan Rental New Zealand for the sixth year in a row at the international TNT Golden Backpack Awards in Sydney last Friday, considered the “Oscars” of the independent tourism industry.

A team of representatives from JUCY, including co-founder Dan Alpe and GM Australia Andrew de Lautour were present at the ceremony at Cockle Bay Wharf in Sydney to accept the award on behalf of JUCY.

CEO Tim Alpe says that he is over the moon that the company has taken out the top accolade for the sixth year running.

“The Golden Backpack Awards are the Oscars of the independent travel sector. For us, it’s an important measure not just of JUCY’s growth and success, but also of how well we are performing in terms of customer service.

“We’re a company that puts people first, with a big purple-and-green heart, and we’ll continue innovating and changing so we can keep staying unique and standing out against our competitors.”

JUCY were nominated as finalists in four categories: Best Car/Campervan Rental Australia, Best Car/Campervan Rental NZ, Best Hostel NZ for JUCY Hotel and Best Activity NZ for JUCY Cruize Milford Sound.

A record 94,000 votes were made during the nine-week online campaign which saw backpackers vote for their favourite travel and tourism operators, transport providers and car/campervan rental companies in Australia and New Zealand.

TNT Golden Backpacks event producer Tom Wheeler said that a huge number of votes had been cast online this year.

“This year has seen around 13,000 more votes from last year, no doubt due to the increase in backpackers and the introduction of new awards. Looking at the votes, it seems there has been an increase in regions and cities working together to promote why their area is best.”
