Wool Market Softens

New Zealand Wool Services International Limited’s General Manager, Mr John Dawson reports that the 6,600 bales of North Island wool on offer this week saw a 91 percent clearance.

Most types saw lower levels than at the previous South Island sale held on the 7th November 2013.

The weighted indicator for the main trading currencies moved only slightly this week from .7478 to .7424.

Fine Crossbred Fleece 33 to 35 micron was up to 5 percent cheaper.

Crossbred Full Fleece 37 micron and Coarser saw a 5 percent decline. Finer Crossbred early shorn and second shear types 32 to 35 micron were generally 2.5 to 5 percent cheaper.

Combing Oddments were 5 percent cheaper, while carding oddment types were par to 2.5 percent cheaper.

Principal buyers were China, Australasian Carpet Mills, supported by Western Europe.

Next sale on 21st November comprises 5,890 bales from the South Island.
