Manaia-2A well completed

OMV New Zealand Media Release

Manaia-2A well completed

Total Depth 2891 m in North Cape formation

Oil bearing sands in Moki formation requiring further study

Rig moving to Matuku-1 site

On behalf of its Maari field JV partners, OMV New Zealand announces it has completed the appraisal well Manaia-2, renamed Manaia-2A following a sidetrack, having reached a depth of 2891 metres.

After completing the log evaluation the well has been sealed by cement plugs and the Kan Tan IV is being prepared for the tow to the Matuku-1 location.

The well has reached its target in the North Cape Formation and intersected oil bearing sands in the Moki and Mangahewa formation, but failed to discover hydrocarbons in the exploration target of the Farewell formation.

“While the Mangahewa formation is already developed and producing from the Manaia-1 well, finding oil bearing sands in the Moki formation to that extent was a bit unexpected,” says Peter Zeilinger, Managing Director of OMV New Zealand.

“Oil and water samples together with sidewall cores have been obtained from the Moki formation and will now be interpreted to evaluate the potential and further work required.”

The Manaia-2A well is located within the Maari Field about 6 kilometres southwest of the Maari well head platform. It is just over 1 kilometre away from the site of the Maui-4 well drilled in 1970.
