Hashigo Zake Unshackles Beer Without Borders

Hashigo Zake Unshackles Beer Without Borders

For four years Hashigo Zake in Wellington’s Taranaki St has aspired to be New Zealand’s most dedicated and determined vendor of fine beer. When Hashigo Zake opened in 2009 most of the output of the worldwide craft brewing revolution never reached New Zealand. Out of necessity Hashigo Zake became an importer of elite beer from a number of countries, and more recently began distributing the beer of up and coming local breweries as well.

With New Zealand’s appetite for superior beer at an all-time high, the brands that Hashigo Zake represents need more than a part-time distributor. The time has come to unshackle the distribution arm of Hashigo Zake.

So from Dec 1, 2013 Beer Without Borders will trade in its own right.

The name Beer Without Borders symbolises the ambition that the new company shares with Hashigo Zake – the elimination of barriers, whether geographic or contractual, between consumers and brewers of fine beer.

Beer Without Borders will operate from a newly developed cool store in downtown Wellington. Beer will be refrigerated and imported beer will generally be shipped in refrigerated containers, continuing the practice that Hashigo Zake pioneered.

Hashigo Zake’s Managing Director, Dominic Kelly, will take charge of Beer Without Borders. David Wood, who as General Manager has shared the management of Hashigo Zake bar for several years, will take charge of the bar named the Best in New Zealand in 2013 by authoritative website ratebeer.com.
