Pero Real Estate to Continue with Trademe

Pero Real Estate to Continue with Trademe

While some real estate outlets across New Zealand have decided to boycott TradeMe, Mike Pero Real Estate will continue to use the online site, chief executive Mike Pero says.

"I know I won't be popular with the likes of Ray White and Harcourts by not joining the boycott, but competition in this industry is what has been lacking for some time," Pero said.

Those boycotting TradeMe were "short changing their customers".

"We're here to serve the public, and TradeMe has been New Zealand's single biggest online real estate website for a number of years."

Pero said the figures showed Kiwis liked TradeMe, visited it most days, and wanted to use it when selling or buying a home.

"TradeMe is a good marketing channel and we believe it's still excellent value for money, even at its new price of $159 for a basic listing."

Pero said this fee remained well below what private sellers paid, "because of our volume discounts".

"We will continue to use TradeMe, real-estate.co.nz and print options we think are value-adding for our customers.

Earlier this year, Mike Pero Real Estate introduced, what it said was the most cost effective marketing option for its clients - mainstream television advertisements on TV One and TV3.

"Our clients listing a new property can have their home featured on national TV at no cost. This in itself has a market value of over $6000+gst.

"That said, we know all our clients will go online for more information and we'd be naive to think that they won't go to TradeMe, so my thinking is those boycotting TradeMe are short changing their customers," Pero said.
